kp: What's your favorite thing about stand up comedy?
bp:
Writing jokes and watching my funny friends. Free beers are delicious.

kp: How do you think your comedy has changed over the years?
bp:
Less jokes about the eighties and nineties now. My writing has gotten better. I’m writing more about myself than I used to. Friends have commented that some of my recent bits are more relatable than my old shit. I’m definitely more comfortable on stage. Mostly. I’m dirtier now. And sillier.

kp: Whose comedy has influenced you?
bp:
Freddie Prinze was the first stand up I ever heard. I was doing his routines about cockroaches and apartment supers before I knew what they were. I became obsessed with Steve Martin soon after; Pryor, Lenny, Carlin, Kenison, Rickles and Newhart are all my favorites. But I was more influenced by my peers and the guys the guys that were famous or established already when I started, like Norm McDonald, Steven Wright, Chris Rock, Hicks, Kindler, Drake Sather, Greg Proops, Attell, Louis C.K. Being around Patton Oswalt, Louis and Attell makes me want to try harder.

kp: Who do you see as up-and-coming?
bp:
Patrice O'Neal, Nick Swardson are both going to do well. I think Melissa Paul is super funny on stage. She’s a girl.

kp: Can you arrange these Davids in order of awesomeness: David Cross, David Spade, Dave Foley, David Lee Roth, Dave Mustaine, Dave Anthony
bp:
You already did.

kp: What are your fans like?
bp:
Mostly very cool. It’s across the board. I have little kids recognize me and old people. Actually, no one in the middle - only little kids and old people (just kidding).

I really appreciate the fans of Mr. Show and my stand-up. The guys are usually just different versions of myself--shorter, balder, fatter versions of myself (also just kidding). I love those guys; I instantly have things in common with them--I’m such a fan myself. A lot of my stand-up fans also love metal and horror. I’ve met some pretty cool people through our shared love of darkness (not the band).

kp: Do you ever get crazy fan mail or lingerie?
bp:
A girl once sent an e-mail requesting the lamest three way ever, me, her and Cross. Cross and I were so fucking creeped out by the thought of that. We went to her house and Scott Aukerman answered the door. Weird, but untrue.

kp: Did someone ask you for your underwear at the San Diego Comic-Con?
bp:
Maybe.

kp: What was the first record you ever bought?
bp:
Kiss: Destroyer was the first record I bought with my own money. I was ten. And adorable.

kp: What was the first concert you ever attended?
bp:
The Tubes and Y & T. Weird line up. Sadly I was there for Y & T. It was at a County Fair in Petaluma.
