INTERVIEW: Gold Hick
by SadBanjo.

gold hick

I'm just as clueless as you are as to who this guy is, but I have to admit, I'm intrigued. Seattle's Sad Banjo met and spoke with Gold Hick, aka Dylan Neuwirth: artist, curator, fashion designer, glam rapper and man about town.

sb: Who is Gold Hick?
gh:
Gold Hick is a beautiful/belligerent glam rapper whose style and taste are impeccable, entourage deplorable and legacy unforgettable. A post-glam, swamp rock, pop sham, interstellar assshole with a gold tongue and a crystal dick. A gutter-glam messiah parriah.

sb: What makes Gold Hick tick?
gh:
You know, it's just autopilot on re-invention and destruction. A great sense of dissatisfaction with myself and the world, a desire to assault crowds and crush any knee-jerk reaction, any sense of the patsy for an audience. To burn so bright to light up the whole scene. To reach perfection in a glitter flash. To entertain, to be a clown, fufill my role as an artist: bum, vagabond, homeless magician.

sb: What and who influenced you?
gh:
I have been influenced by the Wild Boys and Cities of the Red Night trilogies by William S. Burroughs, "We're Only In It For The Money." by Zappa and the Mothers, Nueromancer by William H. Gibson, my grandmother Mary V.U., Iggy Pop, Ziggy, Aladdin Sane, Halloween Jack, Beck, Mike Kelley, the Melted Men, drugs and alcohol, GBV, South America, alcohol and Soul Food.

sb: What is the first record you ever bought?
gh:
The first record I bought was a tape by the Groove Trolls, an Athens, GA band with a 7 ft Amazon lead singer who scared me and who I wanted to make out with. I was 10. I saw the group at the Earthday Celebration in downtown Athens.

sb: What is the first concert you ever saw?
gh:
I was 13 when me and my brother saw Drivin' and Cryin'and Def Leppard at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA.

sb: What makes you very angry?
gh:
I get pissed off when people settle and don't crash the gates every damn day!

sb: You just had some artwork stolen...
gh:
An image of a diamond painted in gold and white, cut out of wood and entitled Gold Hick (Diamond). It was part of 9 pieces in a gallery show in Seattle, WA. Someone stole the work right off the wall and made off without anyone noticing!! I mean did they want it that bad? Kinda cool, but also totally infuriating.

sb: Tell me a secret. I promise I won't tell anyone.
gh:
I have jacked off in the back of my company van over 30 times in the past two months I have been employed.

sb: When is the record coming out?
gh:
The Album ("Astral Projection") comes out on CD on September 24, and the 10" vinyl comes out February 3. The follow up ("The Crossing") is being recorded now.

sb: Do you have any questions for kittenpants?
gh:
That's it man, any other questions and I'm sure we could get funnier, but I'm pretty pumped!!
