DOOMS UK REUNITES, KILLS;
LEAVES DALLAS SHOCKED AND AWED

Q: What begins in a parking lot and ends in a warehouse in crack-town? A: Fry St. Fair!

(Maybe just for me?)

On April 20, Denton's wannabe fraternity, the Delta Lodge, moved it's annual Fry Street Fair to Deep Ellum in Dallas, TX. The move was blamed on the city (bellyachers calling it the Fry St. UNfair), but as far as I can tell, DL had more $$ to gain in the venue change, and hosting in Denton was perhaps complicated by the "rowdiness" of past years. At any rate, it seemed to go okay. Bu then, I was distracted by old friends and alcohol most of the time.

There were more bands playing than I can remember from any past FSF, but I only really wanted to see a few of them, beginning with Little Grizzly, who did not disappoint. Those of you in the NYC area can see what I mean this Friday (5/16) at Siberia when the Griz takes Manhattan.

The evening's high point was provided by Baboon, who played one of the best shows I've ever seen, including a cover of "Gates of Steel" that would make even Gerry Casale proud. God they rule! I barely had time to recover (and get another beer) before the DOOMS took the stage.

Once again, fortune smiled on Dallas, TX. The legendary art-rock superheroes played a killer set that included a few old faves, and most of the "newer" ones. I even got to hear "Rebirth". Yay!

Miss the show? Click to view photos of BABOON and the DOOMS; memorize, and pretend.
