INTERVIEW:
The Honey Brothers

What started out as a Valentine's Day adventure, turned into a Valentine's Day crush. I had planned on meeting up with friends for the "F*** LOVE" cocktail hour at the local bar, when I received an email from a friend. The subject of the email read: "For The Young Crowd Or The Young At Heart." It was forwarded from some mom, and listed details about her son's CD-release-show at Luxx in Williamsburg.

Normally, I just delete mass emails, especially those forwarded from someone's mom. But this mom happened to be the mom of Adrian Grenier, actor and all around cutie. With piqued interest (and nothing going on in the love department) I decided to go check out his band, The Honey Brothers.

I arrive to find a vision in tight pants standing on stage. The trio up front sent a message of love...literally. "I LOVE YOU" was spelled out across their shirts.

The brothers, Hoyt, Dorian and Dr. Carl Honey, are a self-proclaimed Hawaiian-Appalachian-Glam-Rock band who harmonize while playing the banjo, ukulele and electric guitar. Making up the rythm section is Pierre Michelle on bass and Grenier on drums.

The brothers began their musical career after singing as a barbershop trio in order to raise bail money for their father. "We couldn't even afford a guitar, so mom made me a ukulele from a Uku tree," said Hoyt.

"That's how it all got started," Dr. Carl agreed. "We wanted to create Honey-sweet harmonies to get daddy out of jail...and to lull the guards."

I found them so sweet and charming that I decided to make their Valentine's Day by finding them some good old fashioned city gals. The following is the personals ad they helped me write, with some advice thrown in for any interested ladies.
