The Stranglers: song by song

THE STRANGLERS: SONG BY SONG, 1974-1990
The title pretty much sums it up--former Strangler, Hugh Cornwell, gives a song-by-song account of the early days of the band. While the content centers around lyrics and music, often there's a little storytelling thrown in for good measure.

I bought this for my Xmas-traveling-reading and found it to be informative AND entertaining. Keep in mind that it's only one guy's take on everything, which seems a little skewed. But having said that, it's still pretty intriguing.

I'd suggest having at least one or more of these albums handy for reference while reading--or committing every lyric and note to memory.

THE KANDOOZ FAMILY POWER HOUR went off without a hitch last month, and will hopefully continue to grow. I took a few photos, but most came out blurry and dark because I was in the back of the room. Keep an eye on the website for future developments.

Someone sent me an invitation to Monday night's MIDNIGHT PAJAMA JAM with no other information than that it was hosted by Jon Benjamin (who I think is hilarious) and puppets (who I am afraid of, in general).

Anyway, I went, and for $5 I saw some funny shit, and took home a hat and some band-aids (don't ask).

FINALLY,
I don't think I've reviewed any actual music in this issue of the music news and reviews. I've been doing a lot of catch-up CD purchases over the past few months, buying CDs that I used to have access to, but my former roommate has retained custody of.

I've also been going to mostly Corn Mo shows, who you already know is awesome.

I can tell you that if you like singing about Meat Shirts (and you may not realize how much you DO like it) you should definitely check out the Randy Brothers CD, which you can buy from Magic Brian.

Keep an eye out on the usual links for upcoming shows, and send me stuff to review and report.

xo,
