INTERVIEW:
Sparks

Pulling Rabbits Out of a Hat (1984)

kp: What was the first record you ever bought?
Ron:
"Raunchy" by Bill Justis and His Orchestra.
Russell: "Breathless" by Jerry Lee Lewis.

kp: What was the first concert you ever saw?
R/RM:
The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl.

kp: What's it like being so pretty?
Ron:
It's a burden that I've long had to cope with.

kp: Tell us a story about Giorgio Moroder! What's he like?
R/RM:
Despite the disco cooties that some may think he has, he's a really intelligent and forward thinking producer and guy. "I Feel Love" changed everything, so one can't say enough about his sensibility.

kp: Do you still see Jane Wiedlin?
R/RM:
[Not] very often.

kp: Can we have her number?
R/RM:
Jane is probably in the phone book under 'GoGo.'

kp: Do you still see Todd Rundgren?
R/RM:
Never since the time he produced us.

kp: What do you think of Barnes and Barnes? Ween? They Might Be Giants? Tenacious D? Simon and Simon? Hardcastle & McCormick?
R/RM:
Too much tongue 'n cheek and not enough musical substance. Don't like 'fun' bands. (don't know Simon and Simon nor Hardcastle and McCormick.)
