INTERVIEW:
Michael Showalter + David Wain

kp: I loved him on Dr. Katz! I read some trivia: "WHAS features "When It's Over" and "Turn Me Loose." by LOVERBOY. MEATBALLS III also features two LOVERBOY songs ("Hot Girls in Love" and "The Kid is Hot Tonight"). Coincidence?
DW:
Actually yes!
MS: Imitation is the highest form of flattery.

kp: All the reviews mention the "goin' to town" scene - even the bad reviewers speak well of it. What were your fave parts?
DW:
I like that [scene] a lot, the "switching shirts" scene gets me, the training montage. Different things stand out to me every time I watch it.
MS: I like the part where Robert Deniro stands in front of the mirror, "...You tawkin' to me? Are you tawkin' to me?"

kp: About the bad reviews: what do you think is up all these reviewers asses? I mean, have they seen the movie? Do they speak English?
DW:
We seem to have gotten a split: most reviews are either all-out raves (see our website www.wethotamericansummer.com), or hateful, hostile pans. I guess if you key into our comic sensibility you love it, and if you don't, you hate it. I don't take it personally.
MS: There's a thin line between love and hate.

kp: What's your next project(s)?
DW:
We're writing a script called "They Came Together" an upperwestside, NY, romantic comedy. I'm directing a film called "Cap'n Ricky...Also Featuring Karl" this winter. Other stuff on the pipeline too.
MS: I'd like to work on myself for a little while, become a better person. After that, another movie about farting and horny freaks.

kp: Do you have any plans to work with Clint Howard?
DW:
No.
MS: No, but I'd like to work with Clint Eastwood one day.
