INTERVIEW:
John Freeman
by kittenpants

You may recognize John Freeman as "Uncle Sloppy" - writer and comic strip creator for kittenpants. Maybe you know him as "Kenneth" - lead singer of The Delicious Bulls. I know him as my "Uncle Marty", a nickname given after he started calling me his "Aunt Marie" (also the name of a band he fronted).

Perhaps you know him from one of his other bands - as The Dutch Treats. Or the Dooms. Or Telethon. Or as the frontman for Dooms U.K., The Meat Helmets, The Cock Outs, Klaus Nomed, The Oval Teens, The Psychos, Piss Fantasy, Punchcraft, Alan Parsons Projectile (APP), Duck Duck Annhiliation (DDA), The Julius Sumner Miller Experience (JSME)...the list goes on and on. Most of these bands are no more - many only played one or two shows. But they all gained notoriety as a "John Freeman" band - they all claim the rock legend from Dallas, Texas.

John has recently relocated to Brooklyn, NY, and is ready to take on the city. Just three weeks after his arrival, his picture appeared in a VILLAGE VOICE article about the Good/Bad Art Collective and it's blossoming rock scene.

kp: How do you like NYC so far?
JF:
With duck sauce and wasabi.

kp: Were you excited to be in the Village Voice?
JF:
I was shooting for SASSY or PLAYGIRL but SASSY'S number is disconnected and the people at PLAYGIRL are a bunch of fuckin' stuck up snobs.

kp: Did you know it was just a matter of time before your rock n roll stardom made the papers?
JF:
I was actually surprised because usually only the mediocre and "shitty" bands get all the hot press. It's refreshing to see that a "quality act" finally got a little recognition.
