I came across the MOLDY PEACHES' self-titled CD at Kim's just after receiving a second-hand recommendation from Chris Weber via John Freeman. Since they can both do no wrong in my eyes, I picked it up immediately and never looked back.

The CD is awesome. I don't know what else to say. Buy it. I can't wait to see them live - there's bunny suits and Thundercats involved...it sounds amazing.

I suppose you want to know what they sound like. All the other reviews of them like to quote lyrics and play the super-fancy band-cross-reference game, like:

"Wandering somewhere in the technicolour land between the skewed gaze and urban wit of fellow New York resident, The Magnetic Fields' Stephin Merritt, and the flipped-out, crazed-up childish stream-of-consciousness oddity of Jonathan Richman..."

or:

"...The resulting sound is that of a cross breeding of the evil grandchildren of Sonny & Cher with Sonic Youth who have been evidently left to stew in Greenwich Village student dormitories playing Velvet Underground records in the company of minimalist experimentalists Ween..."

Personally, I think they sound like Beat Happening are having a fun party with Ed's Redeeming Qualities. That's a party I'd like to visit. And so should you. So let's rack up the totals:

The MOLDY PEACHES are Awesome!
You should listen to them: in the car, when drunk (not at the same time!).
Your favorite songs will be: (at first) the catchy "Who's Got the Crack?" and "Steak for Chicken." However, after a few more listens, you'll grow to love "D2 Boyfriend" and "Anyone Else But You."
I love the way they: sing different lyrics at the same time, and sometimes forget to sing altogether, and sometimes laugh when the phone rings, and keep on playing anyway.  In sum, it's real damn good.
