My friend John visited this weekend and we decided to take a road trip to Atlantic City. On the way, we got stuck in the middle of a tropical storm - which normally would piss me off - but we just cranked up the stereo and crept along, singing Foreigner songs and smoking cigarettes.

On the way we saw billboards for all the different exhibits and live shows in AC, including a Torture exhibit, a Tribute to Hank Williams, and the Ringo Starr All-Starr band concert at the Trump Taj Mahal. John remembered hearing about the All-Starrs, that the line-up included Sheila E., Howard Jones, and Greg Lake (of Emerson Lake and Palmer) and we start thinking that it could be a really fun thing to do.

Once there, we're approached by a woman with one tooth and a gambling problem who had gotten comp tickets to the show, so we bought them. We're on the floor about 20 rows back (pretty decent seats). But the auditorium started filling up with 60-year-old couples, who might never have been to a concert before. John and I played "celebrities" for an hour ("Hey look - it's Lloyd Bridges.." etc.) and the show started right at 10.

As soon as Ringo started singing "Act Naturally" I had a sinking feeling that maybe this was a mistake. We weren't sure how the show would go - would Ringo be the only one singing? Would he let the other "All-Starrs" play their hits? I mean, what's the point of seeing Howard Jones if you don't hear "Things Can Only Get Better"?

But then: a light in the darkness. We were trying to figure out who the-guy-standing-next-to-Ian-Hunter was. He moved over to the keyboards, and John leans over and says "Oh my God! It's fucking Roger Hodgson from Supertramp!!" And as he said "Supertramp" Roger Hodgson started playing "Logical Song" and we both went ape shit. I jumped out of my folding chair and yelled "YEAH!!!!" with both hands in the air and the ladies around me got scared and moved their chairs away from me. I don't blame them. Well, I do a little. What the fuck?!
